Rams defeat Windsor for Reid's first victory

November 22nd 2008

The Ryerson Rams women's volleyball team used a fourth-set surge to earn its second victory of the season Saturday, defeating Windsor 3-1 (25-18, 29-27, 19-25, 25-18) at Kerr Hall. The victory was also the first for new head coach Dustin Reid, who joined the Rams a week ago.

The Rams led for most of the first set, opening up a 16-8 lead at the second technical time out before moving onto a 25-18 victory. The second set was close throughout and went to the 29th point before Ryerson came out on top.

Windsor answered back in the third set, however, taking a late 19-15 lead en route to a 25-19 win. The fourth set looked like it would play out much the same, but it was not to be for the Lancers on this day. With the score tied at 13, Ryerson went on an 8-1 run to take a 21-14 lead and seal the match.

Ryerson's front court came up with several huge blocks to swing the momentum of the match, led by the five of Kasandra Bracken. The Rams were led in scoring by the 17 kills and 18 points of Leah Saar, while Lindsay Franco added 10 kills and 10 points. Haley Wolfenden recorded a match-high 35 assists in the victory.

Brianna Binder led the Lancers with 16 kills and 19 points. Jillian Fantuz added 29 assists for Windsor in their second straight loss.

Ryerson improves to 2-7, and will finish off the first half of their season next weekend against Toronto (5-3) on Saturday and Brock on Sunday. Windsor falls to 1-9, and will return home to face Western (8-1) November 26.
