'Let it Be' Music Video Released by Save Our Siesta Sand 2 to Counter Army Corps of Engineers and Sarasota City Plan Threatening Pristine Gulf Coast Inlet, Big Pass

April 11, 2014 -- Sarasota, FL -- Big Pass in Sarasota, Florida is one of the last unspoiled inlets left in the state and it protects and feeds sand to Siesta Key, ranked by 'Dr. Beach' as one of the best beaches in the world. The U. S. Army Corps of Engineers and Sarasota city council government is proposing to dredge sand from Big Pass to build up other beaches, potentially risking Siesta Key beach, businesses and residences.

Not-for-profit group Save Our Siesta Sand 2 today released 'Big Pass Piano' a music video based upon the Paul McCartney song 'Let it be' as performed by professional singer Maria Lane. The video was created to heighten awareness of the risks in fundamentally altering a natural inlet that has been open to navigation and untouched since it first appeared on charts in the 1800's. Big Pass Piano may be viewed at http://youtu.be/ackJJQcD6Fw.

Shot in the middle of Big Pass, Lane's soulful rendition of the Beatles classic and the video's stunning imagery of the pass and encourages viewers to learn more about the issue at the Save Our Sands 2 website at www.SOSS2.com. The piano in the video is actually a Hammond organ donated by a supportive local citizen.

'Big Pass Piano' stars Maria Lane (www.MariaLaneMusic.com) and was directed and produced by Rich Schineller with cinematography and editing by Jimmy Scott Jr. The flight camera operator was Ryan Perrone with post production supervision by Becca Dahmen. Sarah Fulton and John Lichtenstein served as production assistants with Mike Hagan and Gary McDermott captaining the support vessels. Diane Schineller Sulimirski shot production stills and logistics support was provided by SUP Sarasota.

Big Pass, Big Sarasota Shoal and the North Siesta Key Beaches and Crescent Beach comprise the Siesta Key Littoral Cell, (SKCLC) which stretches from the entrance of Big Sarasota Pass to Point of Rocks. This complex closed natural system has for centuries transferred sand down the shoal, continuously circulating sand onto Crescent Beach as well as protecting the beaches it nourishes from wave impact. It is a delicately balanced system and coastal geologists do not quite understand the exact mechanism of its operation. Save Our Siesta Sand 2 was formed to raise funds to finance an independent coastal engineering study of the SKCLC to determine the potential for damage to the system from dredging.
