If you think you have bed bugs there are some symptoms you should be looking out for heres a link to a great post on bed bug bites symptoms - http://bedbugshowtogetridofthem.com/b...

Bed bugs are one of those things that keep you awake at night. Homes can be infected with bed bugs from clothing and items, by other animals such as pets or birds, and by visitors to your home transferred on their clothes, items or possessions.

The bed bug itself is perhaps four or five millimetres long, and if they bite you can cause symptoms such as spots, irritated skin, small evidence of blood and reddish patches of inflammation. Bed bugs are elusive and hide in dark corners and crevices. They are active when it is dark and the heat and smell of human scent can activate them whilst you are asleep. Most bites will appear on the legs or back, but can also be found on the face, arms and neck. The bites can then be itchy and if they are on the face or neck can be embarrassing as well.

There are devices to detect bed bugs, but careful detection by way of smell can also be done. Some characteristic smells of bed bugs are similar to coriander, over ripe raspberries or almonds. There are dogs who are trained in the detection of bed bugs and reportedly have an accuracy of over 97% by way of detection. Although the rate is high the number of dogs are quite small and there may be as few as a hundred in the entire USA.

Before modern pesticides were in existence, bed bugs were common, but nowadays they are a bit rarer. Also, they can fall victim to spiders and ants in the food chain, so having a small spider in the bedroom may be less a cause for concern than you might have thought. Although bed bugs are hardy enough so that they may resist weaker pesticide, a strong dose of a specially designed agent will certainly clear them away.
