Veteran TV and Hollywood vocalist Peggy King sings "Cry Me A River" at Metropolitan Room in NYC, accompanied by her musical director Andy Kahn. Performed on Feb 23, 2014 during her first show of a four-concert series at this famed Manhattan music venue, this song was originally written for Peggy King by composer Arthur Hamilton. She was under contract to Columbia Records, helmed by Mitch Miller at that time. Miller refused to allow Peggy to record "Cry Me A River," insisting to her bluntly: "No song with the word "plebian" in it will ever be released on the Columbia Records label." The incredible success of "Cry Me A River," following Miller's censorship over the song's lyrical content, which he imposed upon Peggy King, remains a fascinating story, imbedded in songwriting history.
