Mayor Reads June episode is related to encouraging Edmontonians to Make Something awesome and connect with each other.

These videos are one of the ways that Edmonton’s Mayor Don Iveson connects to community. As a father of 2 young children and a champion for literacy as well as our public library - he understands the value of sharing books. He has countless invitations to read to school groups but can't possibly accept them all. In an effort to “share our Mayor” and connect to children (and adults) through books we have created a project called Mayor Reads. We are so pleased to have the support of EPL for this project as they are happily “sharing” with promotion of these videos. Monthly episodes are based on books which may be related to seasonal themes or city issues that would appeal to our intended audience of elementary students and families.

Butterfly Park was chosen because we love seeing how the community came together to create a welcoming spot and then the girl herself felt at home in her new neighbourhood. Edmonton is a great place for Makers of all sorts. As people connect with each other, share their gifts, skills and abilities – their lives become more abundant.
