Imagine the selfless act of leaving your family behind to help others return home. The soldiers of the Detachment 2 Fox Company 169th AVN of the New Hampshire National Guard, with their deep commitment to serving our country, did exactly that. They were deployed to Afghanistan for nine months. Their tour provided direct MEDEVAC support, saving the lives of injured civilians, coalition partners and even wounded enemy soldiers.

Providing outstanding medical care while in life threatening situations is no easy task. These skilled individuals performed 471 missions and carried 527 patients to higher levels of care, as well as provided maintenance to 15 helicopters. The soldiers of the 169th were the first to provide blood transfusions in flight. This lifesaving measure, nicknamed "Vampire", ensured that patients would arrive to the next level of care alive. More than 40 of these missions were performed over the course of their deployment.
These courageous soldiers of the Fox Company put themselves in harm's way time and time again to save the lives of others. We are grateful for their personal sacrifice and service to their country.
