Balthazar himself explains the need for D&D dice for all Dungeons & Dragons enthusiasts, and the difference between D&D dice and other dice that you might use for more sissy board games that you play with your family.

The standard D&D dice set is the 7-dice set. This include one of the following dice types: 4-sided dice (d4), 6-sided dice (d6), 8-sided dice (d8), 10-sided dice (d10), percentiles 10-sided dice (percentile), 12-sided dice (d12) and the 20-sided dice (d20).

Each of these types of dice are used in Dungeons & Dragons, with the d20 being used most often and others like the d12 being used much less often.

Occasionally in D&D you'll need to roll multiple of the same dice type. This is usually handled by rerolling one die multiple times; however, many gamers prefer to have multiple sets of D&D dice so that they can roll all necessary dice at once. Dice like the d20 are always rolled singly, but the d6 will often require rolls of several d6 at once (and for this reason a standard D&D dice set can be augmented with a matching set of 6-sided dice).
