At Sharjah, March 31 (day/night). Pakistan won by 16 runs. Toss: Pakistan.
Pakistan claimed the cup and completed their reversal of fortune after Waqar Younis had taken four wickets in as many overs to end South Africa's challenge. Moin Khan won the toss for the fifth time, whereupon Imran Nazir, surviving a run-out chance in the first over, and Shahid Afridi gave their side the perfect platform with 123 in 21 overs. Afridi struck a belligerent 48-ball 52 before a brilliant running, diving catch by Kallis sent him back. His team-mates could not quite sustain that rate, but Inzamam-ul-Haq added another fifty and Pakistan beat their previous best against these opponents. South Africa in reply lost two wickets by the eighth over, which brought in Cronje for what was to be his final international innings. Hitting 79 in 73 balls, with six fours and three sixes, he put on 105 with McKenzie, who went on to add 61 with Boucher. Off-spinner Arshad Khan broke both these stands, and Waqar eventually saw off the threat from Boucher, 57 in 49 balls, to conclude his own irresistible breakthrough. Man of the Match: Waqar Younis. Man of the Series: Waqar Younis.
