It's all about the celery! When I read about oilskin food wrap in a drover's poem during my Colonial Poetry unit at uni, it was my celery that sent off the light bulb! I was spending a small fortune buying organic celery direct from from the farmer, with no plastic bags to be seen, of course.

After two days in the fridge it would be wilting and unhappy. I tried everything, standing up in vases (slimy, smelly!) changing little vents in the crisper drawer (simply didn't work) even a vintage glass box that must have been for butter (paranoid about the toddler dragging it out of the fridge!) I was thinking about oilskin jackets and how they feel... I just thought it would work!

When I couldn't buy it online anywhere - I just had to try making it! If a colonial housewife could make it... couldn't I??! And it worked a treat... Organic celery in tact and wonderful for three weeks. Winner!
