User-friendly Desktop Internet GIS (uDig) is one of the original Eclipse RCP applications aimed at Mapping professionals. This talk is focused on the uDig Platform as used in a range of industries, providing a GIS Platform for RCP developers.

The uDig SDK gathers up as OSGi bundles the best of breed open source spatial libraries providing a strong foundation for your application.

In addition the uDig SDK provides a GIS Platform consisting of catalog services for a common API for data access serving as a foundation for different GIS applications.

On top of this foundation the uDig SDK builds a GIS Application with services devoted interactive maps and printing. Interaction is handled by rendering and tool services for display control and screen interaction.

This presentation provides a quick introduction to the uDig application before diving deep and exploring what facilities are available to RCP developers. Examples will be taken from a range of industries.
