I shot this footage during my trip to Africa this summer. Most of the shots were captured in 10 bit uncompressed HD using a Canon XL-H1. The underwater shots were filmed on the Panasonic HVX-200 in 1080/24P.
I completed a rough cut of the video while I was flying back to the United States using Final Cut Pro 6 on a 2.5Ghz MacBook Pro with 4GB of Ram. (The files were down converted to 1080i, compressed HDV at 3.2MB a second.)
The the final edit was completed with Avid Media Composer 3 on a 3.2Ghz 8-core Mac Pro with 32GB of Ram. I cropped the original 1:78:1 aspect ratio to 1:33:1 for YouTube. Sound was mixed using Avid ProTools, and I exported the final Quicktime file to Apple's Compressor, to be downsized for YouTube using a high quality Mpeg4 codec, using XLM data transfer from the Avid Media Composer's timeline through Final Cut Pro 6.
