The Oscar winner walked up on stage with an empty chair, and in reference to Clint Eastwood's similar schtick at the Republican National Convention, thanked an invisible President Barack Obama for winning re-election.

The actor, who was on hand to be awarded with the Stanley Kubrick Britannia award for Excellence in Film, was in a celebratory mood after the US Presidential election.
He walked up on stage with an empty chair, and in reference to Clint Eastwood's similar schtick at the Republican National Convention, thanked an invisible President Barack Obama for winning re-election.

"I'm so extremely grateful and glad that, taking time out of his very busy schedule, the recently re-elected president of this country was able to make it here tonight. I know as an Englishman that it's absolutely none of my business, but I'm so very grateful that it was you," laughed Day-Lewis.
