Pippa Jones speaking with Australian ocean-going yachtsman Ivan MacFadyen whose experiences as a sea traveller of the last couple of decades make him well-informed to describe parts of the Pacific Ocean as “dead” because of severe overfishing, with his vessel having to repeatedly swerve debris for thousands of kilometres on a journey from Australia to Japan.
Aboard his yacht Funnelweb on one of his recent journeys from Melbourne to Osaka, he wrote that only silence and desolation surrounded his boat as it sped across the surface of a haunted ocean.
