As recorded in the Jerusalem Music Centre, "Mishkenot Shaananim", During a masterclass with professor Arie Vardi in the frameworks of the "Piano Meetings" project led by Murray Perahia. Uri Zafrir is currently studying under Mrs Sara Tal.

The JMC was established in 1973, at the initiative of the great violinist and educator Isaac Stern and Jerusalem's mythological mayor, Teddy Kollek.

At the opening ceremony of the building, in 1976, Stern said "It was my hope that a centre could be created, that would have no predetermined structure, that would be an open invitation to all, and through itself, and through its activity, create its own power, its own drive, its own dynamics".

Although over the years our activities have become much more clearly defined and articulated, by and large the spirit of this statement has been preserved.
Many of the world's leading musicians have taken part in our activities, including Arthur Rubinstein, Alfred Brendel, Daniel Barenboim, Menahem Pressler, Murray Perahia, Henryk Szeryng, Yehudi Menuhin, Pinchas Zukerman, Pablo Casals, Janos Starker, Yo-Yo Ma, Maureen Forrester, Christa Ludwig, Leonard Bernstein, Gustav Leonhardt, Emma Kirkby, Christopher Hogwood, Jean-Pierre Rampal, the Amadeus and Guarneri Quartets, Luciano Berio and Gyorgy Kurtag, to name just a few.

Numerous classes, projects and concerts with these and other artists were video-recorded, and over the years an impressive catalogue of these materials has been assembled.

In 2008 pianist Murray Perahia accepted the role of JMC President. At the inauguration ceremony he said: "My dearest wish is to instill a love of music in all inspiring instrumentalists, conductors and composers. This love would see them through all the attendant difficulties, the technical hurdles, the lack of self confidence, all the hardships that musical life entails".
