Lessons in Leadership -- King Josiah
2 Kings 22, 23 -- 2 Chronicles 34. In spite of having what today would be considered a poor childhood, Josiah, King of Judah, came to the throne at Age 8 and during his reign enacted many reforms and not only lived for the Lord, himself; but, inspired the nation to do the same.
He inherited a wicked kingdom from his grandfather, Manasseh, and his father, Amon. It was saturated with demonic religious worship. There was gross idolatry with Baal altars, Asherah-ism, star and planetary worship. King Manasseh was guilty of sacrificing his own son in the flames of Moloch, a deity acknowledged by the sacrifice of children in the Valley of Hinnom. There were astrological and occult altars for worshipping the host of Heaven in the Temple court. He also got rid of the Sodomites. (2 Kings, Chapter 23).
Josiah, the King, took action. Money was provided and paid to the workers in repairing the Temple. The Book of the Law was found during of the Temple and Josiah gathered all the dignitaries and people together as he read to God's Book of the Covenant to them all.
He made a lifelong commitment to God and the people followed.
