This is a unique collection of one-of-a-kind images created by a pastor while on a trip through WWI Europe, post-revolutionary Russia, China and Japan in 1917-1918. The collection was purchased in it's entirely from the photographer's granddaughter.
The trip was organized by the YMCA and seemed to have focused on the various veteran's homes that the Y set up around the world at times of conflict. There is a very limited amount of information available about that trip and currently more research is needed.
The collection contains lantern slides that were masterfully hand-painted by the craftsmen of the era plus the black and white proofs from the images which I assume were used to make final decisions on selection and post-cropping the image.
Please feel free to contact Anton Orlov at orlovphoto@gmail.com with any contributions or if you would like to view the collection with an intent of exhibiting it.
