It has already been almost unanimously agreed that the travesty that occurred at the Nelson Mandela Memorial affected the Deaf community and was both a betrayal of public trust and a slight to qualified ethical interpreters. Therefore, it seems distasteful to make light of the event and the person responsible for it. Nonetheless, a mobile communications provider, LiveLens, has produced a commercial starring Thamsanqa Jantjie, taking advantage of his nonsensical interpreting performance to promote their product. Deaf community representative, Frank Dattolo, comments on LiveLens' decision to cash in on Jantjie's infamy.
