First Ave across from UN General Assembly, flags waving, new US UN Mission Building just opened. Called the Ronald Brown Building, it just opened two weeks ago (from 23 Sept 2010) and in this viewers opinion looks awful. A curve shaped oddball structure with a cement block superstructure that has little to appeal to the eye, in my humble opinion. But of course individual opinions carry little weight at the UN.
At least the flags lend a somewhat festive look to the area, despite the lack of Taiwan ROC's flag, one of the original founders of the UN in 1945, with its first temporary builing housed in a building along Union Turnpike - Marcus Boulevard in Lake Success Long Island NY, just across the NYC line in Nassau County.
