About the Talker:
Dr. Harrison Prosper
Kirby W. Kemper Professor of Physics and Distinguished Research Professor
Department of Physics at The Florida State University

Prof. Prosper received his Ph.D. from Manchester in 1980 in Experimental Physics. After post-doctoral work at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, Virginia Tech, and Fermilab, he joined the faculty at FSU in 1993. His research interests include high energy physics, cosmology, advanced analysis methods and Bayesian statistics. For many years he was a member of the Dzero Collaboration at Fermilab. He is now a member of the CMS Collaboration at CERN. Prof. Prosper played an active role in the discovery of the top quark in 1995 by Dzero and its sister Collaboration CDF

About the Talk:
Echoes from the Past
According to current observations, the universe may contain at least a hundred billion galaxies grouped in vast shell-like structures that surround immense expanses of space. In this talk, Dr. Prosper follows a line of reasoning that leads to an astonishing conclusion: that these immense cosmic structures are the echos of ripples in space and time that occurred 14 billion years ago.

About TEDx: x = independently organized event
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized. (Subject to certain rules and regulations.)
