CINCINNATI (Liz Bonis) -- Avocado and salsa make for good Super Bowl snacking and dental health.I make fresh salsa and I mix with the avocados and everybody loves it. I've been making it for years. This is what I bring to the party, everybody asks me to make the guacamole every year.If you are looking for some healthier options for your super bowl party, Jason's idea is really a great one. Salsa and guacamole may be very good for the body but also your oral health according to researchers. That's a good thing because Super Bowl Sunday may be the second biggest eating day of the year, next to Thanksgiving believe it or not!Amy Griffin, a chef at Remke Markets, said, What I do, instead of chopping my onions and tomatoes and cilantro, I get my pico di gayo or salsa from the store, and I just add it to my avocados and mix it on up and you got everything you need in it.Some of the items chef Amy Griffin is putting in her guacamole have natural compounds in the color, flavor and texture called phytochemicals. Doctor Greg Pohl, a dentist, says, We don't know for sure all the ways those help our health but we are finding that some of the extracted phytochemicals are in research now for fighting oral cancer. He says combining foods that include these phytochemicals with a healthy lifestyle can help you dip your way to good dental check-ups.Absolutely, I mean if you see them, and they have a healthy lifestyle it just generally follows that their mouth is a healthy place. If guac isn't your thing, black bean salsa with corn, black eyed peas, tomatoes, pico di gayo, and a Italian dressing can also help you scoop up some of the same stuff. It's really a simple way to say what taste good in your mouth is good for your mouth too.
