This is a video of anti-union thugs threatening to beat up NYU students during a demonstration on the NYU campus yesterday. These goons were hired by a company owned by Daniel Straus, a member of the Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees at NYU Law School, to intimidate students and nursing home workers who organized a demonstration outside of the Straus Institute for the Advanced Study of Law and Justice yesterday. Straus funds the Institute with over $1 million in annual contributions, yet his company, Healthbridge, is forcing nursing home workers in Connecticut to pay up to $6,000 more per year for family health insurance and taking away sick days, vacation time, pension contributions, and paid lunch breaks from these workers. The National Labor Relations Board has issued numerous complaints about Straus's illegal actions, and is seeking an injunction in court to force him to bring 600 workers who have been on strike for the past 2 months back to work on the terms of their old contract. Yet it appears that Straus's company will stop at nothing in his efforts to defeat these workers, members of SEIU 1199, and their supporters.
In the video, you will hear these goons repeatedly threaten to assault an NYU student as he attempts to peacefully leaflet people as they enter the opening reception at the Straus Institute. We believe that it is the height of irresponsibility for a member of the Executive Committee of NYU Law School to hire people to come to our campus and intimidate students, and we call on President Sexton and Dean Revesz to publicly condemn Straus's actions and make clear that such actions will not be accepted on our campus.
