More race information, though less humanity, is revealed in this video compared to criterium videos like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vMh0Cs... or the helmet cam video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Yq5Qa.... A combination could provide improved race coverage at far lower cost than current televised races.

Technology used on handsets is Google My Tracks, modified for higher resolution time stamps and Avocado My Tracks Bridge available in the Android market. Video produced in Google Earth Pro and audio added with Microsoft Movie Maker. The race finishes at 8 minutes 8 seconds into the video where GPS data is compared with positional data acquired using video captured by the AIS. The data used to produce the video is at https://docs.google.com/leaf?id=0B3RM... and could be used to reproduce the video with different viewing angles, speed multiples etc.

Eight riders are tracked which is about a third of the field. Tracking all riders by persuading them to carry their own smartphone with an appropriate application installed would provide a better understanding of the race. Data for each rider could be retrieved from online repositories in GPX form for video production.
