Male Black Orchid Half-Moon Betta Spawning with Female Crown-Tail.
Tank is 5 gallon with an air-driven sponge filter, heater, and live and fake plants. Temperature is kept at 27C (80F). Bubble nest is beneath the blue lid in the corner of the tank. The pair have been conditioned for about one week, fed live brine shrimp. Two females were kept in a neighbouring tank and both introduced to the spawning tank (where the male has been for a week) for short periods of time. The male had still not built a nest.
Both females became heavy with eggs, then the most receptive female was placed in the tank for about 24 hours. The male chased her but she had plenty of places to hide and rest. After a water change the male began building a nest and within a few hours they were ready to spawn. The events in the video take place over about three hours.
