This is an amateur demonstration of how I modified a carpet transition to ceramic tile after installing new ceramic tile onto concrete. I chose not to use a Z-track because the thicker cover piece of that device is not congruent with the way other carpet transitions in the home were done. The project was completed in January of 2012 and so time will be needed to be sure this transition holds up. Immediately after completion the edge seems to be firmly in place with no evidence of fraying, and to date I am happy with how it is looking.

In preparation to doing this I watched a professional installation by Steve Gordon which offered helpful advice, here.
