After nearly one year of being barred from the Temple Mount by direct order of Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, Knesset member and Deputy Speaker Moshe Feiglin returned this Wednesday to the Temple Mount. He ascended on the 19th day of the month of Adar, renewing a personal tradition of ascending the Temple Mount on the 19th of every Hebrew month.

Generally, when Torah observant Jews ascend to the Temple Mount in purity, they follow a specific path and do not tread on the actual sanctified areas of the Temple. However, authorities of Jewish law clarify that as a prerequisite for building the Temple, there is a commandment to conquer the area. Contemporary halachic authorities such as Temple Institute founder Rabbi Yisrael Ariel have instructed that today, the presence of Jews in these areas on the Temple Mount is vital in order to implement Israeli sovereignty, and any Jewish presence on the Temple Mount constitutes an act of conquest. As a Knesset member, and therefore a representative of the sovereign state of Israel, Moshe makes certain to enter into the Azara inner courtyard of the Holy Temple, for the purpose of reaffirming Israeli sovereignty on this holiest of places.
