Misty Robertson has come a long way since the car accident that caused a traumatic brain injury when she was only 18 years old.

Bedridden and completely dependent on her family and doctors, Misty was in a coma for over four months. She also experienced severe trauma as a result of an allergy to a seizure medication she was given. When Misty awoke from her coma, she was not able to speak, walk or perform basic day-to-day functions on her own.

Today you would never know Misty has experienced such trauma. A lively, personable woman, Misty thrives in her work environment and is a favorite among her co-workers and friends.

Misty credits her miraculous recovery to the constant support of her parents and in part, to the people and experience she has gained with Goodwill. Misty's mother, Margie Robertson, agreed wholeheartedly saying, "Goodwill gave my daughter her life back."

After her accident, Misty had a lot of trouble finding employment due to the injuries she suffered. Eventually a Goodwill Store Manager directed Misty to a Goodwill Employment Specialist where she finally received the assistance she needed.

After five years of training, Misty graduated from the Donated Goods Program and has recently begun working as a custodian at an AbilityOne site where Goodwill performs contract services.

"It's such a tremendous blessing to work with the people at Goodwill," said Misty. "I am so grateful to be able to work and to be recognized."
