This tutorial is designed for beginners and for anyone who wants to create a quick and simple metal type material.

In part 1 of the tutorial a scene is created to test the material and the colour of steel is sampled from images of steel.

Key Points
Renaming the default cube material.
Using the renamed material with other objects (a sphere and a monkey).
Rendering an scene, displaying the result in the image editor.
Opening images of steel object in the image editor (images from Google image search).
Sampling the diffuse colour from the image using the ink dropper.
