Faced with the worst financial collapse since the Great Depression, what has been the response of Wall Street -- where the global crisis began in 2008 -- and the legislators in Washington?

In a special four-hour documentary led by Michael Kirk and Martin Smith, FRONTLINE explores key decisions, missed opportunities, and the uneasy alliance between government and financial institutions tackling the disaster. The series examines how the Bush and Obama administrations have handled the situation while riven by internal divisions. The crisis has led to the largest federal bailout in US history and a rewriting of the rules of government -- both highly contentious -- but, handed such a poisoned chalice, did Obama have much choice? Looking to Europe as well as the US, this series finds the inner workings of global high finance are still largely shrouded in secrecy. Despite widespread anger and protests across much of the globe, effective regulatory reform remains elusive. FRONTLINE traces the rise and fall of the big banks, and asks whether many of the practices that contributed to the crisis are still in use and remain a threat.
