Three visionaries meet in Biloxi, Mississippi, at the Ohr-O'Keefe Museum of Art from June 5 to December 1, 2012. A solo exhibit of paintings, drawings and collages by artist Eugene J. Martin (1938-2005) has opened at the Frank Gehry-designed Museum of Art. The Museum, designed in recognition of George Ohr's (1857-1918) innovative experimentation with modern clay forms from 1880-1910, houses a permanent collection of the self-proclaimed "Mad Potter of Biloxi" (http://georgeohr.org).

Martin's exhibit entitled "A Great Concept: The Art of Eugene Martin" is showcased in the African American Gallery of Art, one of a cluster of five buildings Frank Gehry designed for the Museum campus nested among a four-acre grove of live oaks along the Mississippi Sound. Gehry envisioned the buildings to "dance with the trees". https://www.georgeohr.org/Content.asp..., http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frank_Gehry, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eugene_J....

Works exhibited were created in Washington D.C, Chapel Hill N.C. and Lafayette LA, and date from 1967-2002. The exhibit is curated by Barbara Johnson Ross, Curator of the Collections. Many thanks to Barbara Ross and Denny Mecham, Executive Director of the Ohr-O'Keefe Museum, for their vision of making Eugene Martin's works of art dance as well, off the walls, along with Gehry's building and Ohr's pottery.

The exhibit was funded in part by the Mississippi Arts Commission, a state agency, and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency.
