First let me say that I love Hopslam and Bells Brewing Co out of Michigan. It is routinely the finest d-IPA in the world and is often rated 100/100. I was introduced to this beer three years ago and ever since have waited for its once-a-year release, typically in the Jan/Feb timeframe. It is expensive ($70/case) and sells out quickly. I purchase 4 cases each year. This year I noticed a distinct difference in the taste and the wonderfully bold citrus/grapefruit smell that I always enjoy about this beer. A few others on youtube noticed as well. But others said there was no difference from 2012 to 2013. Fortunately, I had 4 or 5 bottles left from 2012 in my cellar that had also been refrigerated. I decided to conduct a 2-day taste test at our local microbrewery. Here are the results. I have included each person that participated in the testing. The results speak clearly. A week or two ago, I left a message on Bell's website via their contact page. As of today, I have yet to receive a reply. I hope they see this and utilize the info and feedback herein to ensure Hopslam 2014 returns to its elite status.
