The Wesley Morgan played to a packed house at Amnesia on Sunday, July 24th 2011. Backed by Joe Bagale on percussion, David Phillips on pedal steel, and Bill MacBeath on upright, The Wesley Morgan ripped through eight tunes of dirty, broken, and beautiful swamp noir.
The Wesley Morgan is purveyor of the finest Swamp Noir this side of Mission Creek. Wesley is fascinated by life's margins. He enjoys watching stark contrasts fight each other in bare-knuckled brawls to the death. These moments are captured by such lines as, "Tell me little girl, are you a sinner or a saint? / Down on your knees, no hint of restraint."
Wesley bangs out junkyard swing that is ragged and raw, with melodies that drop off, bend, and crack. His songs are full of swamp noir imagery consisting of charming devils and angels with broken wings. It's broken-down blues rolling out of a Saturday night juke joint and stumbling drunk into Sunday morning redemption.
