Private Bradley Manning has apologised for leaking US Government secrets to Wikileaks. The young American soldier accused of being a whistleblower has been convicted of espionage but not of aiding the enemy. Private Bradley Manning admitted leaking thousands of classified documents but said he did so to spark a debate on US foreign policy. The leak is considered the largest ever of secret US government files. Bradley Manning faces a maximum sentence up to 90 years. His sentencing hearing is set to begin on Wednesday July 31. He had support from many groups across the globe including the UK. At a speak-out in London in June guest speakers criticised President Barack Obama for his military policies on Afghanistan. A large crowd of activists, outside the American Embassy, called for the release of the US soldier. The trial for the whistleblower Private Bradley Manning began in Fort Meade, June 3rd. He has been in prison for more than three years,during which time its alleged he experienced conditions of torture. The solidarity speak-out was organised by the Catholic Worker, Payday Men's network, Queer Strike, Veterans for Peace UK and WISE UP Action.
