The 5th Annual Ratrod-O-Rama, originally founded by "Ratrod" Ray Rosa, was organized this year by Paul and Ginger Cuffney and held at the Josephine County Fairgrounds in Grants Pass, Oregon, on August 25, 2012. The event had outgrown its original location at the parking lots of Sonic Drive-In and Abby's Pizza and this year Paul, Ginger, and "Ratrod" Ray decided to support the county fairgrounds and produce the show as a benefit for the Rogue Valley Humane Society. A check for the amount of $4,241.23 was presented to the Humane Society on September 4: not bad for a little old car show!
Don Tippit, a master pinstriper and one of Oregon's top car designers and artists, was on hand to do the down-and-gritty commentary, interviewing car builders, racers, and pin-up contestants.
Hundreds of cars and thousands of fans turned out for a stellar selection of pre-1965 traditional style rods, lead sleds, rat rods, customs, race cars, and bikes. "Ratrod" Ray Rosa, this year's entertainment director, slated three great Southern Oregon bands (Live Awesome, Attack of the Giant Leeches, and Ponderosa Breeze) and an eye-opening pin-up contest to make this the hottest Grants Pass event of the year. City of Grants Pass Councilor Dan DeYoung skillfully handled the MC duties.
Angela Hackworth, assisted by Abby McQueary, organized the pin-up contest.
Winners were: 1) Cassandra Hemphill, 2) Kami Rogers, 3) Mary Allen,
4) Samantha Hunt, and 5) Jamie Banister.
Many thanks go to the event's volunteers and those from the Rogue Valley Humane Society, headed by Director Margaret Varner.
