I uploaded this video because I couldn't find one on YouTube prior to purchasing mine. The Rode blimp is also available in Black.

Here I show the RODE Blimp holding the RODE NT4 stereo microphone, probably the largest and heaviest (480g/17oz) mic you are likely to use in the blimp.

The suspension rings are aluminum with several mounting positions for mics of various weights. The rubbers are sturdy and you get a set of 8 spares along with all the clips you need to carry a wide range of mic shapes, including the square type.

The blimp has some very nice features like the quick release mechanism on the handle to adjust tilt and another to adjust forward/backward position for the optimum balance.

NOTE: The blimp ships with a tail-XLR-cable pre-installed in the handle HOWEVER since the NT4 needs a 5 pin stereo connector so you need to use the original NT4 stereo cable but it doesn't fit through the handle, the octagonal plastic XLR case is too large. Not a huge drama as the NT4 has a 1/8 mini-jack cable and its XLR connector does fit, so I swapped them over, problem solved. EDIT: Another user filed the angles off his XLR connector and then it fit, that is the mechanical solution :) A bit annoying but not the end of the world. Message to RODE DOH!

RODE call the furry wind-protector a 'Dead Wombat' and so the manual has a very odd instruction...

"Brush the Dead Wombat from front to back to lift the hair and prevent matting. This greatly assists in wind noise protection as well as extends the life of the Dead Wombat." 8)

Looks like I had the Dead Wombat on back to front in the video, not that it matters much :)

So what do I think of this blimp? Fantastic value for money, about time a blimp of this quality was so reasonably priced.

Here's the RODE page with product manual for download -

I'd advise downloading the manual as there is only a 'quick start' guide in the box, and it doesn't show all the features of the blimp.
