Accessible Home Improvement of America (AHIA) a division of the VGM Group brings a new display concept to The VGM Heartland Conference 2011. In partnership with Nationwide Custom Homes, a participating AHIA vendor, an approximately 700-square foot, all-accessible Care Cottage has been constructed as a showplace for new ideas in accessibility and independent living solutions. The cottage itself and the innovative products within, have been custom-designed to fit the needs of Angie Plager, Ms. Wheelchair Iowa 2009 and President of the Iowa Spinal Cord Injury Association.

Much of the design and assessment of Angie's personal needs were determined and put into motion by Hammer Medical of Des Moines, Iowa, an AHIA and CEAC certified member. Their time and effort has been from the beginning and will follow through to the end with the final setting of the Cottage on Angie's family property in Cambridge, Iowa.

The goal of accessible cottage display is to create awareness of the possibilities that are available in home modifications and accessibility. Specifically the cottage concept, developed by Nationwide Homes, allows the structure to be either attached to an existing to home or as a separate dwelling on a caregivers' property, allowing for a great sense of independence by the occupant.
