"I'll keep searching for my kind of perfect..." he trailed off, and smiled, looking into my eyes. Madison slowly moved towards me, watching for a movement of protest. For the first time, I wasn't worried about being hurt by Madison. I felt completely safe. He is the sweetest, kindest, most genuine boy I'd ever met. And the amazing thing is: he's mine. Madison's hand gently rested on my cheek and I leaned into his touch. Gently as a cool breeze, our lips me, and he kissed me. My first kiss...our first kiss. Madison slowly pulled away, and looked at me. His eyes said every word. I wrapped my arms around his neck and pulled him close into a tight hug. I rested my head on his shoulder and inhaled his familiar scent. He nuzzled his head into the crook of my neck and we sat together, in each other's arms, for what felt like forever. Everything was perfect.
That is, until he said those five words, in a whisper. Those five... damn words.
"We're going back to Jersey," He whispered, only ever so softly; as soft as a dagger. I froze, and slowly pulled away from his grasp.
"You... you're what?" I stumbled.
"We have to go home. Geo says we aren't getting enough work done here in Texas. He's flagging down our parents and telling them we're coming home tomorrow." I shook my head in denial, tears springing to my eyes. I stood from the seat and turned away from Madison. I couldn't look at him. "Krys... I still want to be with you. I want to be your boyfriend. I need you in my life," he said earnestly. I stared at him; completely shocked.
"My BOYFRIEND?" I asked incredulously. He only blinked in response. Anger and pain, white hot in my veins, coursed through my body. "You tell me you're leaving, you kiss me and then you tell me you are leaving forever and you expect me to be your girlfriend?" I scoffed. "You've got another thing coming, Alamia."
"Kryssi, baby, let me explain," he begged, tears in his eyes. The sight of his pain made me cry even harder, but I had to be strong. He caused this.
"Don't call me that!" I snapped. "I trusted you Madison; I gave you my heart and let you in. You know you were my first kiss?" He looked down ashamed. "You know you were the first guy I told Cindy I liked? You know you were my best friend?' I asked, putting emphasis on the last two words. It was then that he looked up, and his cheeks were red and blotchy, tears falling freely from his hazel eyes.
"I tried Kryssi... it's not like I wanted this to happen. I have no choice," he pleaded. I shook my head.
"You played me Madison, and I fell right into your arms," I wiped my nose, "but I quit. We're done." I turned around and began walking away. Madison grabbed my arm and spun me around. He grabbed the tops of my arms and stared intensely into my eyes.
"Don't give up on me, Kryssi. Give us a try. This isn't the end," he said desperately.
"Just take me home." I whispered, not meeting his gaze. Madison let go of my arms, nodded, and wiped his eyes. I used every fiber of my being to hold back the waterfall of tears behind my eyes. I descended the stairs to Geo's waiting car and got into the back. Madison climbed into the passenger's seat soon after and slammed the door.
"Have a good time kids?" Geo asked.
"Just go," Madison mumbled. The car started, and the waterfall roared.
