Using the Oculus Rift to play Half-Life 2 in virtual reality is really amazing, but using the Razer Hydra to get true 1:1 motion controls really brings the experience to life. You can see in this video that I have complete control over Gordon Freeman's hands, and I can swing the crowbar in any direction I want, and manually aim the gun using its sights. I can even blind fire around corners, something you could never do in HL2! Just a short demo of the game, from the level "Route Kanal".
One thing that's really great about this mod is, since a HUD doesn't really work in VR, instead you look at your gun to check the ammo, and you look at your wrist on Gordon's suit to check your health levels. It works very well, and you can see me checking my health and ammo between battles. It feels very natural, like looking at your watch to check the time.
