BOMBER NIGHT - JANUARY 2, 2009

Warbirds of Prey Server

This was a relatively fun bomber night once I finally got everything working. I missed about an hour and a half at the start because my IL2 installation was corrupted and would CTD on start. I ended up having to reinstall IL2 and re download all my mods afterward. My first mission for the night was the server's second. We ran into some issues with the enemy 109's ramming into a few of our bombers which ended up scattering the group out. From my position as a escort it looked all FUBAR with bombers all strung out and out of formation so it was impossible to defend them from attack. I didn't see any significant or effective combined bombings that run.

My second mission I elected to fly the B-25 "Mitchell". I would have liked to pilot a B-17 but all my mods were not installed. This mission turned out to be a regular cake walk. We orbited "England" a few times as everyone got airborne then headed for Point-Du-Hoc at about 15,000Ft. Formation was a bit sketchy but I think it was good enough for our inexperience in the plane. We encountered no enemy contacts over the mainland as we progressed toward our target. We did encounter some light flak over a few of the towns. Our run up to the final bomb run was smooth with no hitches. We flew over the target at 20,000Ft at I believe 180mph. The stick was nicely placed right on the industrial sector of the town. Our egress met some more light AAA but no contacts. Unfortunately we were not able to land before the mission ended.
