Replacing the venerable A-1 SkyRaiders in the CSAR escort role is the A-10 Warthog but only an ad hoc manner—AFSOC should own and operate their own A-10s to maximize the synergy:

As good as the A-10 is, it needs a back-seat for an enlisted Ground Forward Air Controller (GFAC) to do tours of duty as an Airborne Forward Air Controller (AFAC) to actually spot hiding enemies and direct too-fast fighter-bombers to strike targets—not civilians—properly. USAF pilot egotism is against this common sense:
