Here is a reprint of our later explanation to an investigative reporter at the Anchorage Daily News:

"Hi, Sarah; Warren Buffett here."
The 'Oracle of Omaha' addressed the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners (NARUC) in Miami on November 13. I attended as a member of the NARUC Gas Committee and as Gas Committee Chairman of the Western Conference of Public Utility Commissioners, meeting simultaneously.

I’d met Warren Buffett and MidAmerican Chairman & CEO David Sokol on other occasions associated with these national meetings though I’ve had no reason to know them through my work or the State’s gas pipeline negotiations. I have always been impressed with the quick wit and ironclad grasp of Alaska issues these two men share. Before his speech, Buffett and I informally discussed the recent election and I asked if he'd like to send the Governor-elect a personal message via my new video recorder. He said, 'Oh, sure', and upon returning to the state, I personally gave the clip to Governor Palin’s office. I’m delighted that the Daily News obtained a copy for it reveals something of Alaska’s national importance, but also the opportunity and responsibility our state bears.

In addition to Buffett's interest, I can report here that commissioners throughout the country and some FERC and FCC commissioners attending were also highly interested in our election results and in the continuing gas pipeline saga. NARUC is important to Alaska and helped us win passage of the Alaska Natural Gas Pipeline Act of 2004 and 30 years ago supported passage of the Alaska Natural Gas Transportation Act of 1976. NARUC also supported passage of the Gulf of Mexico Energy Security Act in an earlier form (now before Congress). My Alaskan colleagues and I have worked to assure that NARUC officials have proper access to our Congressional delegation. When the time is right, many of my Lower 48 colleagues and I are hopeful that NARUC will support ANWR development.
