Governor Jack Markell talks about his trade mission to Chile and an agreement he signed this week in Chile with a key customer for the Port of Wilmington, extending the storage and distribution of Chilean fruit in Delaware through June 30, 2014.
Because Chile is in the Southern Hemisphere, its harvests complement ours, allowing fresh Chilean fruit to be delivered during the winter. Delawareans and those along the East Coast enjoy fresh grapes, blueberries, peaches, cherries, and Kiwi fruit throughout the year because of Chilean trading partnerships.
The Port of Wilmington is the nation's leading port for perishable cargo and home to the largest on-terminal refrigerated facility in North America.
