Robert Goodland was a guest speaker at the September 2013 McDougall Advanced Study Weekend in Santa Rosa, CA.
He served as the World Bank Group's environmental adviser from 1978 for 23 years, where he drafted and persuaded the Bank to adopt most of its mandatory social and environmental safeguard policies. In 2001, he was appointed technical director of the independent Extractive Industry Review of the World Bank's oil, gas, and mining portfolio. The Library of Congress lists 39 of his
books and monographs. His most recent book is Philippines: Mining or Food? Last year, he was awarded IUCN's Coolidge Medal for outstanding lifetime achievement in environmental conservation.
