This song, which is written and sung by my brother, David Bulmer, is about Bulmer's Fruit Bat, Aproteles bulmerae. This giant New Guinea fruit bat is named after the archaeologist Susan Bulmer, who is our mother. Here's a link to my article about how this happened: http://www.alicebulmer.com/the-family...
The song is written and sung by David Bulmer, with some backing from Matthew Bannister and Alice Bulmer.
Here are the lyrics of the song:

Ballad of the Bulmer’s Fruit Bat
by David Bulmer

My name is Aproteles
And I’m the Bulmer Bat
I’m going to sing a song for you
So you can learn some facts
Not many people know of me
This song could soon change that
My name is Aproteles
And I’m the Bulmer Bat

Sue Bulmer, who discovered me
Thought that I was dead
She dug my bones up from the ground
And sent them to her friend
Jim Menzies took one look at me
And said “This bat is new…
“I’ll name this bat Aproteles,
Because it’s lost a tooth.”

Aproteles bulmerae
Is the name he gave to me
To honour Mrs Bulmer
For her discovery

I’m a giant bat with wings that span
As far as your arms reach
I do eat fruit and as you’ve heard
I’ve got gappy teeth
The Highlands of New Guinea
Is my natural habitat
My name is Aproteles
And I’m the Bulmer Bat

My name is Aproteles
Please remember that
My name is Aproteles
And I’m the Bulmer Bat

So for another year or two
They thought I was extinct
Because they’d only found my bones
In an archaeological dig
From twelve thousand years ago
It seemed a long time past
Was I just a sad example
Of a bat that couldn’t last

Well then some of my family
Were found to have survived
Living in a hidden cave
Where humans couldn’t climb
And so there was rejoicing
And partying I think
Because the Bulmer’s Bat was found
Not to be extinct

But hey I think the partying
Got a bit too hot for me
Some hunters rediscovered
That I was a tasty treat
And so I am now critically
Endangered one more time
And I may well be extinct again
Before I end this rhyme

You won’t find me at Hallowe’en
I’m way too cool for that
My name is Aproteles
And I’m the Bulmer Bat
