I'd forgotten how great this 1974 movie is. The cast is impeccable, with the fantastic Oliver Reed, Frank Finlay, Richard Chamberlain, and Michael York as the legendary musketeers. Also featuring the impossibly hot Faye Dunaway and Raquel Welch, and Christopher Lee and Charlton Heston - now that's a cast!!! Directed by the master, Richard Lester. They shot so much footage, they decided to split the film in two, leading to the equally exciting sequel "The Four Musketeers" in 1975. This is before sequels became commonplace and a film such as this would become a "franchise". This was a big hit, and you should see it if you haven't. The look and quality in period art direction and the way the film is shot is second to none, naturally adding to the performances and expert pacing. The action and humor is top notch, most notably the fight scenes, which are less about finesse and all about a brawl, a real fight, and were choreographed that way. Absolutely exceptional entertainment!
