This is an arrangement of a Latvian folk song that I learned when I was a child. I'm very grateful to Maruntinja for providing this translation of the Latvian text:
The sea requires delicate net, The boat asks excellent shoresman
When boat goes white (perfect) Boat is also shining (also perfect)
Boat goes shining Hundreds miles per day
Hundreds per day Hundreds per night
Shiny Boat arrives to the North's (mythological character) doorstep
North has a beautiful daughter I went all that way to have a look at her
(she says)"You can come or not, You wont get me anyway
I'd better walk my father's mud (means I'd better live at my father's) , rather than go your way.
Father's mud is made of silver, Your way is made of tears"
Good buy North's daughter, You will never see me again
Well, I shall go into the sea To fight with the North
North has white foam, But I my boat goes white (perfect).
