By Michael Botsford, Host of The Garage

SAN ANTONIO - One-Eyed Doll is Kimberly Freeman and Jason Rufuss Sewell (aka Junior). They braved the storms and made the drive down from Austin to spend a little time with us in The Garage. Two of the greatest people you'll ever meet.

Based out of Austin, One-Eyed Doll doesn't get to spend much time at home.

"We haven't been home all year, and we're so glad to be home right now," said Kimberly. "Touring has been amazing and we've been all over the country and around the world. But, man, it's great to be back in Texas."

"The last time we've been home for more than a couple days was December of 2010," added Junior. "We've finally had about a month to be in the studio at home -- and recuperate a little bit. We've come up with some new ideas to keep the show fresh."

They took full advantage of this extra time.

"We came up with 'Not Going Anywhere' last night for the show today," said Kimberly. "You guys got the debut today. It's never been performed before."

Kimberly and Junior also performed an acoustic version of a brand new song called "Menstrual Case."

For Kimberly, songwriting is cathartic.

"It's something I have to do to stay sane. It's not something I choose to do. It's something I really have to do," said Kimberly.

Case in point, Not Going Anywhere...

"The song is inspired by a fan. We met a young couple on tour," recalled Kimberly. "This very pretty young girl is dying of brain cancer. She just found out a month ago. And she has one month to live. And so they shared their story with us. I was very touched by what he had to say about her and his position. So I wrote that song for him."

At first, songwriting was more personal for Kimberly.

"Most of my life it was very secret to me. I never shared it with anyone. I never thought anyone would relate whatsoever," said Kimberly. "I decided to start playing music and I realized that people do relate. Because we all have out secret emotions that sometime we can only express through the music we listen to."

So what about the name One-Eyed Doll? You might de surprised about the origin.

"It's a couple of things.. In part, it's a reference to my grandpa Bernie, who had a big artistic influence on me. He had one eye," Kimberly remembered. "The other meaning is the metaphysical concept of the third eye, holy spirit, consciousness or whatever you want to call it. It's a reminder for me to stay focused on the present rather than the past."

Being hardcore DIY, they have a whole lot going on to keep them focused.

"We do pretty much everything," explained Junior. "I recorded all of our original albums. And then she [Kimberly] does graphic design, web design stuff, merch -- she'll make shirts by hand. We're building a team right now, but we're not signed to a label. We're on our own label called Nebulost Records."

So what's next for One-Eyed Doll?

"Next is going to be Europe," said Junior. "We're touring Europe, darn it!"

But then Kimberly chimed it with, "We're not announcing that just yet."

"Hold on, hold on!" said Junior. "It's not booked, but that's what we're working on."

One-Eyed Doll just finished their latest recording, produced by multi-platinum industry icon Sylvia Massy. The 12" Vinyl Record + Download for "Dirty" will be available in June, You can pre-order it here...
