Dr. Joe Jaime explains a myofascial release technique (MRT) for the lower back (lumbar spine) using a foam roll. Myofascia refers to the muscle and the structure surrounding it. Releasing the myofascial tissues of the lumbar spine are necessary to alleviate your back pain. In actuality, when performing this exercises, you are accomplishing two things: (1) mobilizing the joints of the back, and (2) loosening up the muscles that run along the spine called the erector spinae. NOTE: Caution should be taken when performing this exercise.
