After my laptop was stolen while camping on Cape Cod, I bought a new MacBook and brought it with me to my family's cottage in upstate New York. My great grandfather James E. Rice, who was a poultry professor at Cornell, acquired the cottage and left it to his six children and their descendants. Now a bunch of cousins share the responsibility for its upkeep and take turns vacationing there each summer. I starting writing this song while sitting on the boathouse overlooking Cayuga Lake, and finished it a year or two later at home in Arlington, MA.
