The Metro Budget and Finance Committee has approved a budget plan that will increase the property tax rate for the majority of Davidson County residents by 53 cents. The plan created by Metro Councilman Sean McGuire would cut the mayor's original proposal by .6 million, and use that money to pay off debt in subsequent years.Seven other alternative proposals were brought up for discussion during Monday night's meeting, and all of them were soundly defeated.Councilman Robert Duvall's plan to cut 00 million dollars, and eliminate the need for a property tax increase, failed by a vote of 13-2.Although the property tax increase seems headed for passage, the alternatives are likely to be discussed once again during the Metro Council meeting on Tuesday night.
