Barnsley FC Club Historian Dave Wood reads a report at the very ground where 100 years to the day Battling Barnsley became the first and only club to win the FA Cup in Yorkshire.

The Reds met West Bromwich Albion in an FA Cup Final replay at Bramall Lane with Harry Tufnell notching the winner in the last few minutes of extra time.

Manager Arthur Fairclough led his side to glory after 12 gruelling matches with no less than five replays as the Second Division Reds overcame the odds and picked up the name from the press 'Battling Barnsley' for their determination and endeavour.

"They reached the final two years prior which was a shock and were so close to winning it," said Barnsley Football Club Historian, David Wood. "The season after we were pushing for promotion and finished second bottom, we could have gone out of the league had they voted us out. So to have a peak, a low and then to win the cup is amazing. We played 12 games in that April of 1912 which is a record for any professional football team and we were trying to win the cup and promotion. It was meant to be a springboard to success but the war interrupted it."
